My Platform
Prince George needs more young people who choose to stay. When young workers and entrepreneurs put down roots, local businesses get staff, families get more services and things to do, and the growing tax base helps support the services seniors rely on. These five commitments are how I will work toward that.
Lots to Living
The City owns several large surface parking lots downtown that sit empty and bring in almost no tax money. I will work to sell or lease those lots at fair market value to private developers for high-density residential or mixed-use buildings. At the same time I will push to bring back a focused version of the old downtown tax incentive. It would give a 10-year exemption on the municipal portion of property taxes for the new value created by those private buildings in the C1 zone. This puts land and buildings back on the tax roll, brings more people downtown, and creates more activity on the streets.
Room to Grow
Prince George needs more young entrepreneurs who choose to build their businesses here. When that happens, the city gains more services, more entertainment, and more reasons for people to stay. I will push for clearer processes and better support so it is easier for new and growing businesses to get started and expand. Reducing red tape will benefit our existing local businesses too. When young people can actually build something here, and existing businesses continue to thrive, the whole community benefits.
Clean the Core
Public washrooms have been studied since 2019. The latest survey still showed majority support, with cleanliness and safety as the top priorities. I will work to install a small number of durable, high-visibility single-occupancy units with proper cleaning and regular checks. The aim is cleaner streets for everyone, less mess for businesses to deal with, and facilities that stay usable. Start with one as a pilot and expand only if it works.
No Blank Cheques
I will vote against proposals that use the Alternative Approval Process when the City is already stretched. The tool can be useful in the right cases, but it has been overused. Taxpayers should get a clear say on major new spending.
I will also push to protect the Lease-In-Lease-Out Legacy Reserve. That money should stay as permanent capital that keeps earning interest for the City. Only the annual returns should go toward capital projects so the fund never runs dry.
Hear It Through
I will listen to residents, businesses, and the people who deliver city services. That includes making space for frontline staff to share what they see on the ground, so decisions are better informed and people doing the work do not feel shut out. Being accessible and responsive, even when the answer is no, is part of the job. People deserve clear answers from the people they elect. When the information is sufficient, I will work to move items to a clear decision, rather than an unneeded deferral.
